CLU CERF Annual Ventura County Economic Forecast

CLU CERF executive director Bill Watkins will present the center's annual Ventura County Economic Forecast. Noted expert Bryan Caplan will discuss "Immigration, Economics and Opportunity: How to Improve the Forecast."
Watkins served as the executive director of UCSB's Economic Forecast Project and as an economist with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C., before coming to CLU.
He has been widely published in academic journals and is quoted regularly by news organizations throughout the world including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Los Angeles Times. He has appeared on Fox Business News and MSNBC on the issues of demographic trends, economic development, workforce issues, equity and California economics. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration finance from California State University, Northridge, and a master's and doctorate in economics from University of California Santa Barbara.
Caplan is a professor of economics at George Mason University and Senior Scholar at the Mercatus Center. He is the author of The Myth of the Rational Voter: Why Democracies Choose Bad Policies, named "the best political book of the year" by the New York Times, and Selfish Reasons to Have More Kids: Why Being a Great Parent Is Less Work and More Fun Than You Think. He is working on a new book titled The Case Against Education. His blog at EconLog was named a top economics blog by the Wall Street Journal.
Caplan has published in the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, American Economic Review, Economic Journal, Journal of Law and Economics, and Intelligence, and has appeared on 20/20, FoxNews and C-SPAN. He earned his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley and a Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University.
