Profile

Harry Starn, Jr., MS, CFA, CFP®, is an executive faculty member of California Lutheran University's MBA in Financial Planning program and Associate Director of its California Institute of Finance. He has been teaching, creating and refining online courses for CLU's MBA-FP program since 2005. In May of 2010, the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) presented him with the bronze award for Excellence in Distance Teaching. He currently serves on the CFP Board's Council on Education.

Education

Harry earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Master of Science Degree in Finance from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He also holds industry certifications as a Chartered Financial Analyst from the CFA Institute and the CFP® Certification from the CFP Board of Standards.

Expertise

Harry has over 20 years of experience in the financial-services industry. He formerly operated his own fee-only financial planning practice, Action Financial Planning, LLC.  Prior to starting his own practice in 1996, Harry worked as a registered representative with Financial Network Investment Corporation and later served as the Manager of Special Directors’ Services with Lipper Analytical Services, Inc., a consulting department to the mutual fund industry.
