Attractions & Entertainment
California Lutheran University is ideally located in Thousand Oaks between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles in beautiful Ventura County. Surrounded by the Pacific coastline and the Santa Monica Mountain Range, fun-filled destinations are no more than a few miles away and vary from the seashore to mountains, lakes and amusement parks including Universal Studios and Disneyland.
On the move
The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area provides an impressive variety of nature trails for hikers, backpackers, mountain bikers, picnickers, equestrians and campers. Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village maintain numerous scenic trails, green belts and protected bike lanes, while various neighborhoods have networks of equestrian trails.
In addition to walking, jogging, hiking, and horseback riding, locals and visitors can enjoy golfing, tennis, swimming, fishing, boating and sailing at various locations throughout the county. Swimmers, sunbathers and surfers swarm the well-known beach parks from Ventura to Malibu.
Island fun
Nearby commercial harbors offer sports fishing, whale watching and tours to Channel Islands National Park where a marine sanctuary contains giant kelp forests that shelter more than 1,000 species of ocean life is located.
Hiking and camping are permitted on all the islands, and sea caves and deserted coves attract snorkeling and scuba diving as well as kayaking and boating. Many excellent state and county beaches, as well as campgrounds, are scattered along the coastline.
The good life
Consistently named one of the safest cities in the United States, Thousand Oaks is home to more than 15,000 acres of public open space. Inviting climate, country setting, and attractive living conditions make the area one of the most desirable in Southern California.
Show time
The cultural arts are alive and flourishing with numerous theatres, museums and year-round events. The world-class Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza offers a wide variety of performances including popular entertainers, Broadway musicals, ballet, symphony, live theatre, distinguished speakers, comedy, jazz, and award-winning children's shows.
