Fielding an honor
Gripping the baseball in his hand, Sparky Anderson stepped to the mound, reared back and fired. Bouncing just in front of home plate, the gleaming white ball hopped into the glove of Cal Lutheran University baseball coach Marty Slimak.

Moment means a lot to George
Sparky Anderson is never likely to be at a loss for words. Saturday, though to his surprise he was close. As part of the dedication of George "Sparky" Anderson Field at Cal Lutheran, Anderson stepped to the microphone and looked around at the hundreds of people filling the temporary grandstands and milling in the spaces beyond the dugouts a very nice turnout on a very nice day.

Field dedicated to T.O. star
The relationship began over a cup of coffee. On Saturday, that 27-year friendship between baseball Hall of Famer Sparky Anderson and California Lutheran University receives a permanent and enduring tribute with the dedication of the George "Sparky" Anderson Field, the new home of the CLU baseball team.

Lions hire CLU alumnus Rod Marinelli as head coach
As they jogged around the campus of what was then California Lutheran College in the early 1970s, Rod Marinelli would entertain Don Reyes with stories of his aspirations. He would talk about becoming a high school football coach and steadily rising through the ranks to his ultimate dream of leading a National Football League team.

Passing it on
Growing up in Thousand Oaks, Pedro Gonzalez always valued the quality of instruction he received on the soccer field. Exposed to coaches who were influential in his life, instilled his passion for the game, and fostered his development, the Cal Lutheran sophomore wanted a way to pass on his knowledge to the next generation of athletes.

CLU team on way to help Katrina victims
At the crack of dawn Friday, 18 students and four other people from California Lutheran University began a journey to help the congregations of two Mississippi churches recover from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina.
