Port of LA is topic of CLU breakfast

(WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Feb. 7, 2014) A deputy director at the Port of Los Angeles will be the keynote speaker at the only Los Angeles County event in California Lutheran University’s 2013-2014 Corporate Leaders Breakfast series.

Cynthia Ruiz, the port’s deputy executive director of external relations, will discuss the port’s innovations and impacts from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills. Breakfast and networking will begin at 7:30 a.m.

The Port of Los Angeles is the nation’s busiest, with the highest container volume and cargo value. It has emphasized growth, security, environmental stewardship and community outreach. The port prides itself on modern terminal efficiency and security that includes Homeland Security operations and the nation’s largest dedicated port police force. It has invested in waterfront development and donated money to community programs.

Prior to joining the port, Ruiz served as president of the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works. She is dedicated to community service that improves the lives of Angelenos. She is formerly the chair of the City of Los Angeles Environmental Youth Conference and a member of the LA-32 Neighborhood Council. She is the founder and chair of Keep Los Angeles Beautiful and received the Keep America Beautiful 2007 Recognition Award and the 2008 President’s Circle Award. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in counseling and previously worked as a rehabilitation counselor.

The Corporate Leaders Breakfast Series brings members of the business and civic communities together to share ideas and hear from prominent leaders in the region. The 2013-2014 series will conclude with a presentation by Jon Irwin, former president of Rhapsody International, on May 6 at CLU’s Thousand Oaks campus.
