Water is focus of corporate leaders event

(VENTURA, Calif. – Oct. 15, 2014) Farmers and agency representatives will discuss the water shortage at the next event in California Lutheran University’s Corporate Leaders Breakfast Series. The event will run from 7:30 to 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Ventura Beach Marriott.

The “Water Resources in Crisis” panel will feature farmer and water agency representative Lynn E. Maulhardt, Calleguas Municipal Water District General Manager Susan Mulligan and Terry Farms President Edgar Terry. Robert J. Saperstein, an attorney who focuses on water law, will moderate.

Maulhardt is the president of the United Water Conservation District Board of Directors. The district manages water resources in Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura, Santa Paula and Fillmore. He is also chairman of Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency and a managing partner of a Ventura County farm.

Mulligan began working for the Calleguas district in 1993 as an engineering manager and has served as general manager since 2010. The district is responsible for providing a reliable water supply in an economically responsible manner to an area that includes Camarillo, Moorpark, Oxnard, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.

Terry oversees the production of vegetables and strawberries at Terry Farms in Santa Paula, Fillmore, Ventura and Oxnard. He is chairman of the California Strawberry Commission Board. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Cal Lutheran and is an adjunct faculty member.

Saperstein is co-chair of the Natural Resources Department at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP and serves as office managing partner for the firm in Santa Barbara, Sacramento, San Diego and Orange County. His practice focuses on water law and related environmental issues.

The Corporate Leaders Breakfast Series brings members of the business and civic communities together to share ideas and hear from prominent leaders in the region. The series will continue with a presentation on “Health Care in the Region” by Ron Werft, president and CEO of Cottage Health System, on Jan. 23 at Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort in Santa Barbara; a talk on “Leading a Successful Nonprofit” by Thomas Vozzo, CEO of Homeboy Industries, on March 3 at the Sheraton Agoura Hills; and a panel discussion on “The Future of Online Business” on May 5 at Cal Lutheran.
