A wealthy bachelor named Colin, played by Romain Duris, and Chloe, portrayed by Audrey Tautou, fall in love and marry in  “Mood Indigo.”

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – March 26, 2015) California Lutheran University’s 2014-2015 International Film Series will conclude with a free screening of the French movie “Mood Indigo” on Wednesday, April 15.

The 2013 film co-written and directed by Michel Gondry will be shown with subtitles at 7 p.m. at Carmike Theatres 14 Thousand Oaks.

The film is set in a charmingly surreal Paris where wealthy bachelor Colin spends his time developing a cocktail-making piano and devouring otherworldly dishes prepared by his trusty chef Nicolas. When Colin learns that his best friend has a new American girlfriend, he attends a friend's party hoping to fall in love himself. He soon meets Chloe and, before they know it, they're dancing to Duke Ellington and plunging headfirst into a romance. They fall in love and marry, but Chloe becomes ill on their honeymoon. Colin spends his fortune treating Chloe’s unusual disease and slips into poverty as she passes away.

The film produced by Luc Bossi received César Award nominations for Best Original Music, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. It stars Audrey Tautou of “Amélie” and “Coco Before Chanel” and Romain Duris of “The Beat My Heart Skipped.” A 1947 cult novel by French author Boris Vian inspired the visionary and romantic love story.

Gondry’s second film and second collaboration with screenwriter Charlie Kaufman was the critically acclaimed “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. The 2004 film won an Academy Award and Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay, the Bram Stoker Award for Screenplay and the Toronto Film Critics Association Award for Best Director.

His other films include the 2008 comedy-drama “Be Kind Rewind,” the 2011 superhero action comedy “The Green Hornet” and the 2012 drama “The We and the I.”

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and seating in the 250-seat theater will be first-come, first-served. Carmike Thousand Oaks 14 is located at 166 W. Hillcrest Drive.

The festival is sponsored by the Department of Languages and Cultures with support from Pearson Library. For more information, contact Karen Renick at 805-493-3434 or renick@callutheran.edu.
