Chemistry professor to lead CLU faculty
Kristine Butcher has served on many committees
Kristine D. Butcher came to CLU in 1989 and has been the chair of the Chemistry Department since 2000.
(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Nov. 26, 2008) Chemistry professor Kristine D. Butcher has been elected to a two-year term as chair of the California Lutheran University faculty.
The Thousand Oaks resident came to CLU in 1989 and has been the chair of the Chemistry Department since 2000. She has served on many university committees including Academic Standards, Faculty Executive and Assessment. Her duties as Faculty Chair include representing professors on the Budget and Strategic Planning committees and the Board of Regents.
Butcher has conducted studies in collaboration with The Aerospace Corporation and her current research examines the electronic structure and bonding properties of metallic carbides using molecular orbital calculations. She is a member of the American Chemical Society and the National Science Teachers Association.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and a doctorate in physical chemistry from Stanford University.
