CLU opens year with formal procession

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Aug. 15, 2012) California Lutheran University will hold its Opening Academic Convocation for the 2012-2013 year at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, in Gilbert Arena.
Faculty and administrators will assemble in full academic attire to welcome more than 830 new freshmen and transfer students. Thirteen new faculty members will be presented and 12 faculty members who have received tenure or advanced in rank will be recognized.
Marylie Gerson, recipient of the 2012 President’s Award for Teaching Excellence, will be the keynote speaker. Gerson, an associate professor of psychology and the new coordinator for the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship, teaches a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses including research methods and clinical, developmental and social psychology. The Westlake Village resident, who joined the CLU faculty in 2001, is known for her dedication to teaching and mentoring student researchers.
The fall semester begins on Wednesday, Sept. 5, for undergraduate students.
Gilbert Arena is located in the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center on the north side of Olsen Road near Campus Drive.
