CLU Choir, Women's Chorale to perform

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Oct. 3, 2012) The California Lutheran University Choir and Women’s Chorale will open their seasons with an eclectic Homecoming Choral Concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, in Samuelson Chapel.

Wyant Morton, director of choral and vocal activities, will conduct. The chair of the Music Department is in his 21st year at CLU and has conducted the CLU Choir for performances at the Lincoln Center and in England, Italy, Norway and Sweden.

The program will feature “Moravian Duets” by Antonín Dvorák and “Unicornis Captivatur” by Ola Gjeilo. The choirs will also sing two works by songwriter Jim Papoulis: “Kusimama,” a song about standing tall on the earth with hope, strength and acceptance; and “Oye” about listening to the world around us. The songs will be sung in Czech, Latin, Swahili and Spanish, respectively. The concert will end with upbeat gospel music by Los Angeles Master Chorale Composer in Residence Shawn Kirchner.

Alumni singers will join the CLU choirs. The original Kingsmen Quartet from the early 1960s will give a special performance.

The chapel is located south of Olsen Road near Campus Drive on the Thousand Oaks campus. Additional parking is available at the corner of Olsen Road and Mountclef Boulevard.
