Christmas story to be re-enacted at CLU
Annual Las Posadas tradition features students, public
Students representing Mary and Joseph will travel by donkey through campus seeking shelter for the birth of their son.
(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Nov. 9, 2012) California Lutheran University students and staff will join with community members to re-enact the Christmas story in the Mexican tradition of Las Posadas from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.
In the university’s annual tradition, students representing Mary and Joseph will travel by donkey through campus seeking shelter for the birth of their son. Other students, staff and visitors holding candles will walk with them from the Multicultural Programs office to the Lundring Events Center in the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center. The evening will conclude with a piñata and refreshments of hot chocolate and pan dulce (sweet bread). This festive Mexican tradition dates back to the 16th century.
The Multicultural Programs office is located in Multicultural Modular Unit C between the Swenson Center for the Social and Behavioral Sciences and F Building. It is near the corner of Faculty and Pioneer streets on the Thousand Oaks campus.
