THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Earlier this week the d3football.com preseason All-America teams were released and Rian Younker found his name on the Second Team as the only SCIAC player honored.

A two-time Second Team All-West Region selection and First Team All-SCIAC recipient in 2011, Younker has had an impact on the success of the Cal Lutheran football program since arriving in 2009.

As a defensive tackle he has played in all 30 games the Kingsmen have suited up for over the last three years. Younker has racked up 116 total tackles, with 64 solo stops, and 14.0 sacks for a loss of 99 yards. In 2011 he recorded 7.0 sacks, with six unassisted, pushing the opposition back a total of 58 yards. Younker’s lone interception came in 2009. As a sophomore he forced a fumble and recovered four fumbles. During his freshman campaign he was responsible for scoring one touchdown.

This summer Younker was also selected as a Lindy’s Second Team preseason All-America.

In the spring of 2012 Younker was named the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-American Athlete of the Year.

The Kingsmen get underway on Sept. 8 when they travel to Pacific Lutheran University for a 12:30 p.m. start against the Lutes. The CLU home opener will be Saturday, Sept. 15 when they host Linfield College at 12:30 p.m.
