Kingsmen Tennis Releases 2013 ScheduleCLU will face off against eight ranked opponents

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The preseason No. 5 Cal Lutheran men’s tennis team has announced its 2013 schedule. The Kingsmen will be playing another competitive slate this spring, with eight opponents ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Top 25 including preseason No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Cal Lutheran is looking to capture the first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title in program history after taking significant strides last year. CLU finished 2012 second in the league with a 7-2 record and posted a 16-9 overall mark as they advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
The Kingsmen will kick-off their season with a SCIAC double-header on Saturday, Feb. 2, when they host preseason No. 14 Chapman at 10:00 a.m. at the Paulson Tennis Center before traveling to Caltech for a match at 3:30 p.m.
Cal Lutheran travels to St. Paul, Minn. for the ITA National Indoor Championships February 22-24 where they will face some of the top players in the country.
The following week, the Kingsmen return home to host a pair of non-conference opponents. Monday, March 4, CLU hosts the University of Mary Washington at 1:00 p.m. and Friday, March 8, the Kingsmen will take on preseason No. 3 Trinity (Tex.) at 3:00 p.m.
The toughest stretch of matches for Cal Lutheran will take place between March 23 and April 14 when CLU faces off with five consecutive ranked teams including No.1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, No. 2 UC Santa Cruz, No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer, No. 8 Whittier and No. 13 Occidental.
SCIAC competition heats up as the Kingsmen will host the Sagehens on Saturday, March 23 at 10:00 a.m. before turning around to host the Stags of CMS on Friday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, April 6, Cal Lutheran will hold their final regular season home match against Whittier with the first set scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
CLU will head north for the Ojai Tournament (April 25-28) before returning to Southern California for the SCIAC Championships (May 3-4) hosted by Whittier.
NCAA Postseason play will take place May 10-12 with the National Championships being held in Kalamazoo, Mich.
