Biography

Before becoming Vice President for University Advancement in 2002, Wheatly served for six years as Director of Estate & Gift Planning and served as Chief Operating Officer of the California Lutheran Educational Foundation. Prior to being director, he served as associate director beginning in 1992. He has been a practicing attorney since 1985, following the completion of his juris doctorate in 1984.

He has developed many of the University's strongest personal alliances and participated in the successful fund-raising efforts for campus expansion. A passionate advocate of CLU and especially the Athletics Complex, Wheatly directs capital campaigns by overseeing the major fund-raising operations of the University, including offices of development, alumni relations and planned giving.

As an alumnus of CLU, Wheatly has a strong commitment to the University and Lutheran higher education. He served the University previously as Assistant Director of Admission (1977-80) and as Assistant Director of Financial Aid (1980-83).
