Since Ward came to CLU as Dean of Undergraduate
Enrollment in 2006, the number of applications to the private liberal arts and
sciences university has increased more than 200 percent. During that time, the
percent of students in underrepresented groups at CLU has risen from 30 to 43
percent and the average SAT score of incoming students has increased by 39

The university has become increasingly selective during Ward's tenure. In 2010,
CLU admitted only 47 percent of freshmen applicants, down from 63 percent the
previous year.
In 2010, CLU welcomed brightest and most diverse freshman class in its history.
Twenty percent of the students ranked in the top 10 percent of their graduating
class. One third of the freshmen and new transfers are the first in their
family to attend college.

These gains are due in part to innovative new programs that Ward has launched.
These include the CLU Guarantee Scholarship: Private Education, Public Price,
which allows students who are admitted to select University of California
campuses to attend CLU for the same price, and the 4 to Finish program, which
guarantees students they will finish in four years or CLU will pick up the tab
for any remaining classes.
Ward has more than 15 years of enrollment and marketing experience.  Prior
to CLU, Ward worked in Admission for 8 years at the University of Miami and 2
years at the University of Wyoming. He earned a bachelor's degree from the
University of Wyoming in 1995.  A former visiting scholar at the Center for
Economic Research and Teaching in Mexico City, he earned a master's degree and
doctorate in international studies from the University of Miami.

The Thousand Oaks resident speaks to service groups on Mexican economic
development and regularly makes presentations at high schools and community
colleges on college admissions and financial aid.  He teaches classes on
political economy at CLU, as well as serving in the university's FOCUS Program,
mentoring freshmen and new transfer multicultural students during their first
