THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – A mix of returning and incoming athletes are set to join forces for the Cal Lutheran women’s swimming and diving team as the 2013-14 season approaches.

The 20-woman roster is compiled of 14 returning Regals with the addition of six true freshmen and a sophomore swimming at CLU for the first time. A lot of the depth will come from the seven seniors.

One of the biggest strengths of the CLU squad this year will be the diving core, which is comprised of five including senior All-SCIAC and CLU record holder Sheyenne Machida. Last winter Machida placed third on both the one and three meter diving boards at the SCIAC Championships. She is the CLU one meter record holder for both six and 11 dive sets.

Junior Danielle Warmuth, who is abroad to start the season, will return with experience in the spring semester. Joining the diving corps are freshmen Tiersa Jones, Tianna Pasko and Karlyn Power.

In the pool a pair of swimmers with CLU records returns. Senior Shelby Brooks (100 back, 200 back) and junior Mimi Harbach (500 free) are expected to again lead the Regals between the lanes. Harbach was an All-SCIAC swimmer in both the 500 and 1650 a year ago.

During her final season, look for Sarah Forsythe, Kelli Miller, Juliana Rios, Alvina Wong and Stephanie Yu to all contribute points in a variety of areas. Forsythe and Wong will sprint while Miller will swim breaststroke and IM, Rios will compete in middle distance and butterfly and Yu will focus on backstroke.

Joining Harbach in the junior class are Taylor Faust and Mary Wakabayashi who will swim middle distance and butterfly, respectively. Also bringing back another year of experience at the collegiate level are sophomores Katrina Brown and Katie Kochalko. Brown is set to sprint and Kochalko will take the blocks for IM and butterfly.

Suiting up in the Violet and Gold for the first time this winter are Emily Borchard, Emily Golssbrenner, Briana Johnston and Annika Stenfjord. They will all swim freestyle and Stehfjord will also compete in IM races.

Cal Lutheran begins action this weekend when the Regals travel to the Malibu Invitational at Pepperdine Oct. 25-26 with diving on Friday and swimming events on Saturday.
