Twenty-nine Cal Lutheran students will perform 22 dances encompassing contemporary, hip-hop and modern dance.

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – April 14, 2016) California Lutheran University student choreographers will present their creative work in concert on May 6 and 7.

“Moving Images” will begin at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Preus-Brandt Forum on the Thousand Oaks campus. Twenty-nine Cal Lutheran students will perform 22 dances encompassing contemporary, hip-hop and modern dance.

“Moving Images” is the culmination of the work by eight students in the Theatre Arts Department’s spring choreography class. The choreographers are Kristina Albarian, a junior interdisciplinary educational studies major from Burbank; Ryder Christ, a senior communication major from Sunland; Faith Elliott, a senior psychology major from La Crescenta; Jesse Hu, a senior computer science major from Moorpark; Nelson Nunez, a freshman biology major from Downey; Brooke Sikkema, a freshman theater arts and psychology major from Stevenson Ranch; Raleigh Stamper, a senior political science major from Reseda; and K’Yanna Wesley, a freshman criminal justice major from Woodbury, New Jersey.

Some of the dances explore serious topics while others were created for pure entertainment.

“Moving Images” dances are eligible to be presented at the American College Dance Association Baja Region Conference at Cal State Los Angeles. The dance faculty selects which dances will represent Cal Lutheran at the conference. Two dances from a previous concert, “Eye of War” by Albarian and “That Silent Head Grip” by Kelsey Reed, a senior psychology major from Buellton, were presented at this year’s conference held in March.

The Theatre Arts Department is sponsoring the free concerts. Preus-Brandt Forum is located at 135 Chapel Lane. For more information, contact Barbara Wegher-Thompson at 805-241-8515 or wegher@callutheran.edu.
