CLU wins prestigious Distance Learning award

University’s online MBA CFP program recognized for innovative teaching

(THOUSAND OAKS, CA – May 2007) - The U.S. Distance Learning Association (USDLA) presented a silver award in Category II: Best Practices in Distance Learning Programming to CLU at their awards ceremony on May 7.
CLU’s innovative and accredited program in Financial Planning was recognized for its dedication to preparing its students to become professionals in the field. The program is designed to help mid-level professionals keep pace with growing market demand and stay ahead in this increasingly complex career field. In addition, this program prepares students to sit for the CFP Certification Exam.
Dr. Somnath Basu, Director of the Online MBA and Certificate Program in Financial Planning, provided the guidance and vision for these programs. Each course integrates three learning management systems including IntraLearn, Adobe Breeze and Wimba Live Classroom, and delivers content and materials via an asynchronous system coupled with voice-over IP technology. Tutorials are delivered via Adobe Breeze presentation software, and the Live Classroom enables the faculty member to meet with one student or all the students for consultation or class presentations.
The program, with its rigorous MBA-Financial Planning curriculum, is registered by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. Candidates who plan to sit for the CFP Certification Examination must successfully complete a CFP Board-Registered Program. CLU’s program is the only CFP board-registered program that offers an online MBA in Financial Planning geared completely toward financial services professionals.
CLU and Learning House began working together to build an online campus in October 2004 and launched their first courses in 2005.
