Forensic handwriting examiner to speak

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Oct. 4, 2012) A forensic handwriting examiner will give a free presentation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at California Lutheran University.

Sheila Lowe of Ventura will discuss the science of handwriting analysis and its use in forensics and law in Room 101 of the Swenson Center for Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Lowe is the author of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Handwriting Analysis,” “Handwriting of the Famous & Infamous” and the “Forensic Handwriting Mysteries” series of novels.

Skilled in forgery identification and personality assessment, Lowe has more than 40 years of experience and has been qualified as a handwriting expert in the California court system since 1985. She teaches forensic handwriting examination in the crime scene investigation certificate program at the University of California, Riverside, Extension.

Lowe holds a master’s degree in psychology and is licensed by the state to provide continuing education on the application of handwriting analysis for marriage and family therapists.

Private investigators retain Lowe in cases of anonymous notes, harassment, and screening of surrogate and adoptive parents. Criminal investigators call on her graphology skills to identify red flags for dangerous behavior. She also helps corporate employers with human resource management and integrity screening. Other international clients include mental health professionals, attorneys and staffing agencies.

She has lectured throughout the United States and in Canada and the United Kingdom.

This year Lowe was elected president of the American Handwriting Analysis Foundation. She is also president of the Southern California chapter of the educational organization. She also serves as director of membership for the Ventura County Professional Women’s Network.

The Swenson Center is located at the corner of Faculty Street and Pioneer Avenue on the Thousand Oaks campus.
