CLU CERF to present 2013 county forecast

(CAMARILLO, Calif. – Oct. 22, 2012) The California Lutheran University Center for Economic Research and Forecasting will present its 2013 Ventura County forecast and columnist Dan Walters’ post-election analysis from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Serra Center in Camarillo.

Bill Watkins, executive director of CLU CERF, will present the county forecast. Watkins and Walters, political columnist for The Sacramento Bee, will also discuss the results of the Nov. 6 general election and what they mean for California and the United States.

Walters has been a journalist for more than 50 years, spending all but a few of those years working for California newspapers. He joined The Sacramento Union’s Capitol bureau in 1975 and later became the newspaper’s Capitol bureau chief. In 1981, he began writing the state’s only daily newspaper column devoted to California political, economic and social events and, in 1984, he and the column moved to The Sacramento Bee. He has written more than 7,500 columns about California and its politics, and they now appear in more than 50 newspapers in the state.

The journalist has also written about California for other publications including The Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. He is the author of “The New California: Facing the 21st Century,” the founding editor of the “California Political Almanac” and co-author of “The Third House: Lobbyists, Money and Power in Sacramento.” He is a frequent guest commentator on national television news shows.

CLU CERF provides local, state and national forecasts for government, business and nonprofit leaders. Watkins has been providing accurate, unflinching forecasts for more than a decade and has been widely published and quoted in academic journals and in the media. The National Association for Business Economics, the Economist, CNN Money and Case-Shiller Macro Markets have included CERF forecasters in their surveys on economic policies and outlooks, home prices, jobs and the presidential election.
