THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran baseball team announced their 2013 schedule, which includes a traditional balance of competitive non-conference games along with the continuation of a number of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rivalries.

The 2013 Kingsmen will look to continue the streak of 24 consecutive seasons with a winning record after the 2012 squad went 23-15 and finished tied for third in the SCIAC with an 18-10 mark.

Cal Lutheran will open the season with an eight game home stand. The Kingsmen begin 2013 with a three-game series against defending NCAA West Region champion and preseason No. 8 Whitworth (Wash.) on Feb. 8. First pitch at Sparky Anderson Field at Ullman Stadium on Friday is slated for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, the teams will play a doubleheader with the first game scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.

The Kingsmen then host former National Champion George Fox (Ore.) Feb. 15-16 for a three-game tilt. CLU and GFU will play one game on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. before returning Saturday morning to finish the series with a doubleheader that gets underway at 11:00 a.m.

Jumping right into SCIAC play, Cal Lutheran faces one of the most difficult stretches any team in the conference will see in 2013. CLU opens with 2012 SCIAC runner-up Pomona-Pitzer on Friday, Feb. 22 at CLU before traveling to Claremont, Calif. Saturday, Feb. 23 for a doubleheader with the Sagehens. First pitch on Friday is 2:30 p.m. and the doubleheader Saturday begins at 11:00 a.m.

The Kingsmen return to Ullman Stadium to host Chapman, the 2011 NCAA Division III runner-up and newest SCIAC member, on Friday, March 1 for a single game with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m. The series then moves to Orange, Calif. as Chapman will host the Saturday doubleheader at Hart Park beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Friday, March 8, CLU makes the trek to Redlands for the opening game of the series at 2:30 p.m. UR, the 2011 SCIAC champion, looks to rebound after finishing 20-20 in 2012. The Kingsmen return home Saturday, March 9, to host the Bulldogs for a doubleheader at 11:00 a.m.

Cal Lutheran takes a quick break from conference play, hosting Bridgewater (Va.) for a single game at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.

The Kingsmen meet fellow 2012 third-place finisher Occidental the weekend of March 15-16. Cal Lutheran hosts the Friday afternoon game against the Tigers before traveling to Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday for the doubleheader. First pitch on Friday will be 3 p.m. with the doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.

Cal Lutheran then travels to Arizona to compete in the Tucson Invitational Tournament between March 22-25. The Kingsmen open the weekend with UW-La Crosse on Friday at 2:00 p.m. The Eagles went 34-11 in 2012 while also winning a game at the NCAA Division Midwest Regional. CLU then plays UW-Superior on Saturday, Gustavus Alophus (Minn.) on Sunday and concludes with Luther (Iowa) on Monday.

The Kingsmen round out their conference schedule with series against Caltech (March 29-30), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (April 5-6), Whittier (April 12-13) and defending SCIAC champion La Verne (April 19-20). All series will have Friday single games beginning at 3:00 p.m. and double dips on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

The SCIAC has reconfigured how it will crown the conference champion in 2013. After each team has concluded their conference series schedules, the teams will be seeded 1-9 based on their conference record and begin a four game pool-play series set to take place April 24-30.

The top four teams will advance to the Inaugural SCIAC Post Season Tournament from May 3-5 at the site of the highest seeded team. The tournament winner will earn the SCIAC automatic bid into the NCAA Championships.

The 2013 NCAA Division III College World Series will be held May 24-28 at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis.
