CLU drops conference meet to Occidental

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women’s swimming team narrowly missed another Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) victory Saturday morning, falling to Occidental 162-132. Saturday’s event also marked the last meet at Samuelson Aquatic Center for the Regals two seniors, Cortney Jordan and Brooke Hubbard.

CLU swimmer Mimi Harbach kept up her winning ways, placing first in all three individual races she competed in. Harbach got her day started by touching the wall first in the 1,000 free, finishing with a time of 11:03.55. The junior then took first place in the 200 free, winning in a time of 1:59.08.

Harbach’s last individual race of the day, the 400 IM was her most dominant. The Romeo, Mich. native won the race by 25 yards while finishing with a time of 4:40.82. Her time was more than 14 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Sophomore Shelby Brooks won both the 100 and 200 backstroke. Her time of 2:15.95 was two seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Freshman Katie Kochalko took first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:13.68 and sophomore Taylor Faust finished fourth. Kochalko also won the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:00.79.

Cal Lutheran placed second and third in the 100 free with Juliana Rios clocking in at 57.23 and Karissa Winkler right behind her at 57.53.

Kelli Miller rounded out the CLU winners on Saturday. The junior was victorious in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall first in a time of 2:31.59, more than five seconds ahead of second place.

The Regals will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 2, when they travel to Pasadena to take on Caltech and Pomona-Pitzer. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 10:30 a.m.
