Kingsmen Continue Winning Ways

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – For the third time in as many days the No. 6 Cal Lutheran men’s tennis team took to the courts at the Poulson Tennis Center. Today, the Kingsmen defeated No. 28 Trinity (Ct.) 6-3 to stretch their win streak to nine.

A physically and mentally trying week saw CLU host three ranked opponents, turning in an upset of No. 3 Williams on Wednesday.

In unusual form, Cal Lutheran and Trinity began the day with singles play as the men and women’s teams played an overlapping double header.

CLU jumped out to a 4-2 lead with No. 1-4 winning for the Violet and Gold. Nicholas Ballou cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Musyoka Mbithi on court one with Ray Worley defeating Dan Carpenter 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 and Alex Nichols had no trouble with Ned Mandel, winning by 6-1 and 6-3 margins in the three spot.

Things were more competitive on the fourth court where the Kingsmen team lined the baseline fence and the Bantams gathered on court five to cheer on Thomas Millet and Ilya Levin, respectively. The pair needed a tiebreaker in each set with Millet earning the edge both times for a 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5) victory.

On the number one doubles court Ballou and Worley quickly disposed of Mbithi and David Myers with an 8-1 win to clinch the match for the Kingsmen.

Millet and Marcelo Sousa battled at No. 2 doubles, earning a 9-7 victory to conclude the match today.

Cal Lutheran (13-1) returns to the Poulson Tennis Center on Saturday, March 23 to face No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer in SCIAC play. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m.
