THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Eight home matches and trips to Texas and Washington highlight the 2013 Cal Lutheran women’s soccer schedule, which was released Friday by head coach Frank Marino.

“We will be playing some of the top teams in the West Region during the preseason and then return to take on another tough conference schedule,” said Marino, who is entering his fifth season as head coach.

The Regals, who advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament last year, open their schedule Friday, Aug. 30, against Whitworth in Spokane, Wash. The following day, CLU takes on Pacific Lutheran at noon.

A week later, Cal Lutheran heads to Texas for three games. The Regals open their road-trip with Hardin-Simmons on Friday, Sept. 6, in Dallas at 6:30 p.m. In one of the premier match-ups of the year, Cal Lutheran will face a Hardin-Simmons team that went 18-1-2 last season and finished ranked No. 7 in the country. On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Regals face UT-Dallas and then round out their Texas trip with a game against Austin College on Sunday.

Ten days later, Cal Lutheran begins its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schedule against Redlands. The Regals enter the season as the three-time defending conference champions.

With the addition of Chapman last season, the conference schedule expanded to 14 games. Despite a full slate of games against SCIAC opponents, Marino scheduled tough non-conference opponents for a reason.
“Ultimately, we play a difficult preseason schedule to get us ready for the SCIAC schedule.” He continued, “Playing every team twice with the SCIAC Post Season Tournament at the end is a a tough schedule for anybody but I think we will be well prepared.”

After opening with Redlands on Sept. 18, the Regals host their first home game inside Rolland Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 21, when they take on Whittier at 1:00 p.m.

CLU then plays two of its next three games at home with matches against Occidental and La Verne.

On Oct. 5, Cal Lutheran will have a chance to avenge last season’s lone conference loss to Chapman when the Regals travel to Orange, Calif. with kickoff against the Panthers coming at 11:00 a.m.

Following a road game against Pomona-Pitzer on October 9, CLU returns home for a two-game home stand. The Regals play Redlands on Saturday, Oct. 12 before hosting UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference match on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 3:00 p.m.

Cal Lutheran closes out its regular season with three home and away games. CLU travels to Whittier, Occidental and La Verne while hosting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Chapman. Sat. Nov. 2 will mark senior day as CLU takes on Pomona-Pitzer in the final game of the regular season.

All SCIAC games at CLU will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

The dates, times and locations of the SCIAC Post Season Tournament will be determined at the conclusion of the regular season.
