Mail Services Guide

Introduction

California Lutheran University is a community within a community requiring all of the postal services of an ordinary small city. This service is provided by the Mail Center, under the direction of Administrative Services, which offers postal services to include campus mail pick-up and delivery, the processing of incoming and outgoing U.S. Postal mail, package service by UPS, and express service by Federal Express. Those eligible to use the mail service are currently employed administrators, faculty and staff, and enrolled students.

The Mail Center Service Guide has been prepared to inform you of the services available at CLU. Additionally, the information provided in this manual is basic information for topics such as mail preparation and classification, specialized services, and other information we thought would be helpful to you and your department.

This guide is in no way going to cover everything within the USPS Domestic Mail Manual, but will explain a variety of different options available and procedures that need to be followed when using the University mail system. We have omitted postage rates and fees as well as some regulations from this guide. For additional information you must contact the University Mail Center or click on the respective links.

Familiarity with and observance of the instructions included will result in efficient handling and dispatch of your mail.

Hours

Monday - Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Sunday: Closed

The last delivery of processed mail to the U.S. Post Office and presort vendor is 3:30 p.m. All mail must be received in the Mail Center by this time to have it processed the same day. If there is an emergency and you need something posted later than the allotted time, please contact the Mail Center, and if possible, we will assist you.

Because of postal regulations, the Mail Center is unable to pre-date and post date pieces of mail. Once the USPS has picked up the University's mail, (roughly 4:00 p.m.), all computers and equipment are shut down. Since no mail can be posted after mail is picked up, daily reports will be run. All metered mail must be handled by the University Mail Center, no mail will be metered for self delivery to the U.S. Post Office.

The Mail Center is located next to Ullman Commons or through the breezeway behind Starbucks. The Goal of the Mail Center is to provide a courteous and efficient service ensuring mail is handled in the most economic and expedited way. Please prepare your mail in such a way that we can be proud to have it leave the campus as a representative of the university for all who see it.
