I am evaluating a job offer as a back office planner supporting a senior adviser affliated with national firm. What should I consider in the job offer?

I would be sure that there is a career path and that you aree not a permanent fixture in the back room.

Over the years I have found some individuals starting in the back room but with a clear career path with objective milestones.
I have also seen where the job is dead end so I really recommend you discussing the opportunities with the senior person.

Best thing would be if the senior person acts as your mentor rather than treating you as a rival.

Thanks Lee,
Unfortunately or fortunately as I am seeing it now the opportunity did not materialized. I wll keep your comments in mind as I evaluate future opportunities. Wallace.

Hey Wallace,

I would also look at some volunteer opportunities (based on your financial situation). It gives you GREAT exposure and the experience could prove invaluable.

Also, as you look for opportunities don't overlook non-traditional sources: non-profits, in-house planners, private planners, etc.

Hope that helps.
