Profile
Rahuldeep Singh Gill is interested in the relationship between texts, subtexts, and contexts, as well as the nexus between the social and the religious. In particular, he examines the evolution of Sikh institutions over five hundred years of the tradition's history, as well as the interaction of Sikhs, Muslims, and Hindus. His research explores the life and works of the Sikh tradition's most important interpretive writer, Bhai Gurdas Bhalla (d. 1636).
Dr. Gill's dissertation is available at UCSB's Center for Sikh and Punjab Studies.
Read Dr. Gill's post about Sikh Studies on the Sikh Foundation website.
To understand more about the Sikh tradition, read Dr. Gill's section on Patheos.com. Click here for a recent New York Times treatment of the Sikh institution of langar, the communal kitchen.
