Letter from the Chair

Welcome to the CLU Art Department website! This is a remarkable department in a remarkable institution.

Art is an integral part of the liberal arts curriculum at CLU, and we are committed to being a source of creativity during your holistic studies at the University. The department's faculty will provide you with excellent quality teaching based on our extensive professional experience. Furthermore, particularly if you become one of our majors, we are dedicated to getting you ready to work and make your living in the arts after finishing your studies, or to move on toward further study at Graduate School.

With a curriculum designed to give you a firm foundation in traditional studio practice, we are able to introduce you to a broad range of disciplines and challenge you to develop your creative abilities. In our upper division courses we expect you to assert your independence and develop the stylistic choices that will make you a successful artist.

It's an exciting time for us in the Art Department as we move toward becoming a vigorous centre for the arts in Ventura County. The gallery has a reputation as a dynamic force in the region, regularly bringing new ideas to the art community and enhancing the cultural life of the County. We have plans to improve our undergraduate programming and facilities, already underway now that we have officially moved into our K2 painting studio space, and I expect the next few years to be quite exciting.

I hope you will join us as we grow!
