Important Phase-out Notice: Recent changes in the goals and strategic planning at the institutional, school and department levels have resulted in the decision to not pursue reaccreditation of the CLU Athletic Training Education Program beyond May 2010. The final cohort of students was accepted into the program in the Fall of 2007, when the Class of 2010 began its second year of study at CLU. Throughout the phase-out period, we pledge to deliver the same high quality academic experiences that gained the program full accreditation status.

The Education Program
The CLU Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program received initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in September, 2004. The program was awarded an initial accreditation period of five years, which is the maximum period awarded for initial accreditation. The program is a six semester program and is housed in the Department of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine in the new Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center. Students will enter and progress through the program as a cohort. Approximately 15 students per year are accepted into the program. All applicants must have met the entrance requirements and be accepted/enrolled at CLU prior to admission into the ATEP.
While progressing through their educational experience, students will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience at one of our affiliated sites within the community. These sites include area high schools, community colleges, physical therapy offices, general practitioner and orthopaedic surgeon offices, a local hospital, and the NCAA Division III Intercollegiate Athletic Teams of California Lutheran University.
