Dr. Richard Derderian

Richard Derderian earned his BA at Bowdoin College and his M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. His research centers on immigration in France. He joins CLU from the National University of Singapore where he recently published a book entitled North Africans in Contemporary France: Becoming Visible (Palgrave). He is currently working on a book of the history of France's Vietnamese community.

Dr. Erwin has the honor of being selected as the first full-time holder of an endowed chair with CLU's Religion Department, the Gerhard and Olga J. Belgum Chair of Lutheran Confessional Theology with a part-time appointment in the Department of History. He also serves as Director of the Segerhammar Center for Faith and Culture. Before coming to CLU, Dr. Erwin served as lecturer on the history of Christianity and historical theology and principal instructor in the Lutheran Studies Program at Yale Divinity School. He has done graduate study in Germany at the Eberhard Karls University in Tbingen and at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig, and has written extensively on topics relating to Christology in the later Middle Ages and the writings of Martin Luther.
Dr. Paul Hanson

Twice a Fulbright Scholar in India, Dr. Hanson's research has focused on Islamic history in South Asia, especially the relationship of religion and political legitimacy. Other national fellowships and awards have enabled him to study in London, Sri Lanka and the Middle East. An avid travel photographer, he is currently working on a reference videodisc for South Asian Civilizations. Dr. Hanson is co-director of CLU's international studies major and coordinator of the Global Studies Program. He previously taught at St. Olaf College and Agra University in India.
Dr. Michaela Crawford Reaves

Ph.D., University of California, Santa Barbara.
Dr. Reaves specializes in American History, with emphasis in socio-cultural history. Her dissertation work was in the social organization of agrarian societies in California in the 1870s. She has published many articles and is currently working on a monograph, The Farmers' Revolt, and an article on women in early America. She teaches courses in United States' history. In addition, she has received several grants to work on curriculum projects in social science for elementary and middle school teachers and students.
