Message from the Dean

As an NCATE accredited university, California Lutheran University through its School of Education develops outstanding reflective, principled educators for schools and colleges in Ventura, Santa
Barbara and Los Angeles counties. We are driven by the values and beliefs in our STRIVE statement and put those beliefs into ACTION in our classrooms. The vision espoused in our STRIVE statement defines who we are as a school of education, and we model what we believe.

The School of Education at California Lutheran University has a rich and proud history of preparing teachers, counselors, and school and university leaders. Our graduates now number more than 12,000. They work in local, national, and international settings and make a difference wherever they are. They are reflective, principled educators who are well prepared and deeply committed to being the best at what they do.

Our School of Education faculty bring strong academic qualifications and rich experience in their respective fields to their work with students. Our strong academic programs are enhanced by the practical experience and continuous feedback provided to students as they develop their expertise. We work closely with a strong cadre of educational partners in our local community to ensure that both academic and clinical experiences are rich, deep, and thoroughly integrated.

Faculty and staff pride themselves on being student-oriented and work to ensure small class sizes, regular and frequent advising, and a highly active learning environment. We attract excellent students who have strong commitments to their chosen profession. We value diversity and believe that individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences enrich the learning experience for all of our candidates.

California Lutheran University is a very special place to learn, develop, and grow professionally. Please consider joining us.

Carol A. Bartell, Ed.D.
