Academic Difficulty Notices

Academic Difficulty Notices are an important "Early Warning System" that the University uses to:

  • Monitor the progress of students in the classes in which they are enrolled.
  • Inform the student and Faculty Advisor of a mid-semester grade of a C- or below, along with a reason for the grade assigned.
  • Assist the Faculty and staff in advising the student to improve academic behavior or withdraw before the deadline.
  • Provide the student and Faculty Advisor with information to make informed decisions concerning class selection.

  • The request for faculty reports occurs approximately between the 7th and 9th weeks of the semester.
  • Academic Difficulty Notices are distributed to students daily via their California Lutheran email account during this time up until the last day to withdraw for the semester.

  • All course withdrawals must be in-person at the Registrar's Office.
  • A withdrawal will be reflected as a grade of "W" on the student's official transcripts.
  • In the event a withdrawal is processed, the student is still financially responsible for tuition and fees.
  • Not all faculty report; therefore, the student is encouraged to use the syllabus to calculate a mid-semester grade and/or meet with the instructor during office hours.
