Entertainment Savings

An important part of your college experience is discovering new ways to enjoy your free time. One of the terrific things about being part of a college campus is the great variety of venues and performances that are offered at a reduced cost to students, and are sometimes even free.

On most campuses there is more than one place to find entertainment possibilities, see what your campus has to offer in the following areas:

  • Student Association. You probably pay a student activity fee each semester as part of your fees. On most campuses part of this fee goes toward providing entertainment programs such as concerts, lectures, art exhibits, etc. Do a little investigating to see what types of activities your campus has to offer.

  • Performing Arts Departments. Many campuses have a variety of departments which focus on the performing arts. These can include music, theatre and dance to name a few. These departments usually have several different performances a semester, often featuring students in key roles and positions, and they may also sponsor tour shows and traveling companies. Look for great performances at little or no cost.

  • Student Union. Many student unions have a variety of entertainment options ranging from bowling alleys, games rooms, and music listening areas to art galleries and recreational sports centers. The "Union" is usually a great place to hang out and meet new people, see what your campus Union has to offer.

  • Sporting Events. Colleges and universities have a long standing tradition of sports - both intercollegiate and intramural. Whether you are a spectator or a participant, chances are you can probably partake of some type of sport experience almost anytime during the academic year! Many times admission to campus sporting events is discounted or even free to students, which is a good inexpensive way to get together with friends!
