Applying to Study Abroad

Thank you for your interest in Studying Abroad! Students returning from a study abroad find this to be one of the best experiences of their college career. This application is the first step to planning your journey and will allow for the Study Abroad Center to aid you during the process.

Application Information

The priority deadline to submit an application for Spring 2010 is October 1st. Please allow 1-2 weeks for our office to process your application! Once you have submitted an online application you will receive an email explaining your next steps in the process.

Below is information to continue your application process:

Applying to your program

After submitting your CLU Study Abroad Center Application, you must apply to your program of choice. The application for CLU Programs is available in the Study Abroad Center and the application for Partner Affiliate Programs is available on their website or in the related information booklets. Once you receive your acceptance you must forward a copy to our office either by email or come to the office to make a copy.

Study Abroad Registration Fee

A $200.00 enrollment fee is applied to your student account. This administrative fee confirms your participation in your chosen program and will be charged after attending the pre-departure fair later in the semester.

Withdrawal/Deferral and Refund Policy

Student withdrawal/deferral: All students issued acceptance letters will be enrolled in the program for which they have been accepted and will be responsible for paying tuition and fees for the Program.

Students wanting to withdraw/defer must complete the CLU Study Abroad Center Withdrawal/Deferral form, which must be picked up from the Center and signed by the Director. Students who withdraw/defer their participation after April 15th for summer and fall terms or November 15th for spring term will not be refunded the $200 Study Abroad Registration Fee.

Transcript

Applications will require an official transcript be sent by California Lutheran to the institution you will be attending. You can purchase one in the Registrar's Office for $5 and have it sent to your chosen institution. You will also be required to put the Study Abroad Center's address on your form so your program can send a transcript to CLU at the end of your semester or term. The Study Abroad Center needs to have an unoffical copy of your transcript on file in our office as well.

Passport

If you have chosen an international study abroad program, you will be required to have a passport. If you do not currently have one, you will need to apply for one as soon as possible. You can obtain a passport application and passport photos in the Study Abroad Center. The City of Simi Valley is now processing passport applications and can be reached at (805) 583-6066 to for appointments. You can visit www.travel.state.gov to receive detailed passport information.

Faculty Advisor

Make an appointment to speak with your Faculty Advisor and discuss the possible courses that you will be taking and how it will fit into your four-year plan.
