Exploring Chinese Culture and Media is a travel course that integrates authentic Chinese material with an exploration of its history, philosophies, religions, values, customs, and media. The first half of the course will include topics such as differences between western and Chinese cultures, cultural taboos, concepts of "guanxi" and "time", business etiquettes, and the business environment in China. Basic conversations in Chinese will be taught. The second half of the course will familiarize students with the key media sources in mainland China, including newspaper, television, Internet, etc, as well as its communication industries. It will also improve students' skills at analyzing news, reports, and stories from Chinese media sources.

Students will discover China's rich history, language, and cultural tranditions as a backdrop to its emergence in the global economy.  They will also investigate how Chinese culture influences business practices and the mass media system.
