We're small enough to care, and big enough to do something about it.

A Letter from CLU President Chris Kimball

Dear Transitioning Professional:

I am writing to you on behalf of the entire California Lutheran University (CLU) community simply to express our concern and caring for all those at Amgen and Countrywide who may be affected by the difficult circumstances now facing those companies.

Like you, many of those employed in these companies have a direct relationship with CLU — currently enrolled students, students who have withdrawn before completing their degree programs, and alumni. We know that some of you may be called on to make significant changes in your professional lives and that for many more these will be, at the very least, times of anxiety and uncertainty.

We want to help. And, to do so, our first job is to gather information about what is actually happening and will happen in the future. We are now seeking meetings with senior managers in both companies to learn more of the specifics of the adjustments that will be made and how those might affect members of the CLU community. We are also having extended discussions among University administrators, program directors and others to explore, assess, and implement policies and services that will be directly responsive to the specific circumstances.

Further, we would like specific suggestions from you about other ways in which we might be of assistance. We are creating a short online survey where you can make suggestions, or simply ask questions that may be on your mind. We will be in touch with more information on how to access the survey.

We are working as quickly as we can to put appropriate assistance opportunities in place and will update you very soon on our progress in doing so. If you have any questions in the mean time, please contact Michelle Jacobson, Director of Development for the School of Business, at (805) 493-3358 or via e-mail at mjacobso@callutheran.edu.

All of us at CLU have you in mind and wish you the best possible personal and professional futures.

Sincerely,

Chris Kimball
President
