Hilary Wirkkala (Sieker) '02 & David Wirkkala '02
David and I met on a plane headed down to Pres Scholarship weekend in 1998. I recognized his CLU bag tag and thanks to Cal Lu for choosing Southwest, we could pick seats next to each other. 17 year olds trying for our shot at the school of our dreams, we connected and I knew then he would eventually be my forever. We both realized once we started dating, we wouldn’t stop, so attempted to just be “best friends.” That lasted only until Christmas break and we’ve been together since. Ironically, we met 5 other people at Pres Scholar weekend who would become part of our wedding party, even snapped a picture that weekend that included 3 of them.
I talked this sports focused, never been on a stage, boy into being my dance partner in West Side Story where he had to dye is blond hair jet black and he talked me into playing intramural soccer where I believe we lost every game.
We named our first born Callie after our affection for CLU for where our story together all began.
