Lecture: Art and Community in a Vital, Material World
Amiko Matsuo and Brad Monsma
While their collaborative exhibition Pyrometric is on display at the Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture, Amiko Matsuo and Brad Monsma discuss in a lecture format some of the questions it raises.
Are things worthy of ethical consideration? How do the disappearing distinctions between human and non-human, living and non-living, shift our notions of community?
With reference to their own work and to that of other artists, Matsuo and Monsma consider how the art of the so-called Material Turn challenges traditional ideas of artistic agency and collaboration to raise questions about the nature of communities and the compass of ethical considerations.
Admission is free. A reception will be held in the gallery following the presentation.
