Shenanigans: Senior Art Show 2017

Shenanigans: Senior Art Show 2017

Cal Lutheran senior art majors have curated an exhibition that challenges the mind, reflects reality and inspires imagination. Works represent a variety of media including ceramics, charcoal, oil, watercolor and digital painting. The artists have eight unique perspectives from eight completely different backgrounds; what they all have in common – shenanigans. The artists are Brittney Bednar of Agoura Hills, Livia Bowman of Orange, Ronny Camacho of Oahu, Ryan Cohen of Moorpark, Ashley Cruz of Simi Valley, Brianna Joyce Mercier of Whittier, and Makenzie Perry and Katherine Reaves of Thousand.

Bednar of Agoura Hills is inspired by country music and culture. Bowman from Orange enjoys art and art history and creates works inspired by material culture that are intended for a domestic setting. Camacho from Oahu, Hawaii, specializes in figurative charcoal drawings. Cohen is a painter and illustrator from Moorpark who illustrated a published children’s book. Cruz is an illustrator and painter from Simi Valley who enjoys working with a combination of watercolors, markers and colored pencils to create portraits. Mercier from Whittier uses her art to tell untold stories and engage in activism. Perry of Thousand Oaks studies child development and works with children under age 5; her work is inspired by these experiences. Reaves of Thousand Oaks, who enjoys singing, drawing and crafting. She has started a nonprofit organization Sing for the Heart.

An opening reception will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 22, and artist talks will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28.

Admission is free. The gallery, located in William Rolland Stadium, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
