Founders Day Convocation 2021

Founders Day Convocation 2021

Each fall the university community gathers to celebrate the timely mission of the university and marks the occasion with a festive convocation. We celebrate the educational commitment of the university to equip graduates who are called and empowered to serve their neighbors so that all may flourish. The program includes installing the Board of Regents, commissioning the Convocation and recognizing the recipients of the Christus Award. The Convocation speaker is Vance Blackfox, director for the American Indian Alaska Native Desk of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). As a part of ELCA Global Missions staff, he nurtures engagement in communities through the practice of accompaniment, justice and advocacy so that together all may become better global citizens and responsible, compassionate people. Blackfox is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation.

The Christus Award is given annually to individuals in recognition of their contributions to strengthening the bridge between the church and the university or who have made significant contributions to higher education in the ELCA.

The Founders Day Convocation will be live streamed at CalLutheran.edu/live.
