Brian L. Wilcox, Ph.D.

Career Achievement

Brian L. Wilcox received the Career Achievement Award for his concern for education and for youth.  Graduating from CLU in 1973 with degrees in English and psychology, Wilcox completed a Ph.D. in community psychology from the University of Texas in 1979.  Since that time, he has held key positions including executive director for public policy at the American Psychological Association; director of the Center on Children, Families and the Law; and full professor at the University of Nebraska.

In 1995, Brian was quoted saying, “I am still in the early stages of my career development,” and even at that time, his list of accomplishments was impressive: Fellow, American Psychological Association; Distinguished Contribution to Psychology and the Media; and Congressional Science Fellow, Society for Research in Child Development.

He always aspired to study adolescent risk behaviors and health, and write a book for parents on the effects of television and media on children.  As for his career as a professor, Wilcox said he “hopes to have the sort of positive influence on my students that the faculty of CLU had on me.”
