Samuel Rosen M.S.

Humanitarian Concerns

Samuel Rosen, a 1981 master’s graduate of CLU with a degree in special education, has dedicated his life to teaching the handicapped and mentally disabled.

Employed for eighteen years at Camarillo State Hospital-Developmental Center, he worked to provide mentally challenged and mentally ill youngsters with the fundamentals of an elementary education as well as with appropriate self-help skills.  Through his work he generated his thesis--“An Alternative Educational Program for Institutionalized Disabled Youth.”

Perhaps more remarkable are the twenty plus years Samuel spent as scout advisor and post advisor of Explorer Post 9962 of the Boy Scouts of American, Camarillo State Hospital.  His efforts have included jamborettes for the handicapped and have earned him the following recognitions by the Boy Scouts and the Association of Retarded Citizens: Silver Beaver Award, Ventura County Council, Boy Scouts of America; 1990 Golden Rule Award and the Frank D. Lanterman Award.

For his strong and untiring commitment to bring educational and scouting programs to the institutionalized, disable youth of his community, Samuel Rosen is a worthy recipient of the Humanitarian Concerns Award.
