Douglas A. Oden ’72 was honored with the Career Achievement Award for his accomplishments as an attorney.  Douglas graduated from CLU with a bachelor’s degree in political science and completed a jurist doctorate at Western State University College of Law in San Diego.  He has been practicing law since 1978 and in 1987 became a partner in the Law Office of Oden & Green.

Douglas is an active participant in many professional organizations.  His efforts in the judicial system have been acknowledged by the Earl. B. Gilliam Bar Association, and he was the recipient of the Thurgood Marshall Award in 1993 and the Distinguished Service Award in 1982.  Douglas was also recognized by the NAACO and was the recipient of the Loren Miller Legal Award in 1990.  He is a board member of the San Diego Southeastern Economic Development Corporation and a past board member of the NAACP and William J. Oaks Boys & Girls Club.

“I have always considered my four years at CLU the most important and exciting years of my life.  The education I received prepared me for law school and the faculty and students I interacted with provided the foundation for future endeavors.  I believe it is important that CLU maintain and expand its diversity policy in order that students from different cultures and background can come learn and live the Cal Lutheran experience.  I dedicate this award to my parents whose sacrifices made any achievements I may receive possible.”
