Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

Books and Brew

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, a look into the isolated lives of Chinese women by Lisa See, is a fascinating novel set in 19th century China. The narrative “details the deeply affecting story of lifelong, intimate friends…Lily and Snow Flower.” (Publishers Weekly) To break free of their oppressed and secluded lives, women created nu shu, a gender-based type of writing. With this strategy of literacy, Lily and Snow Flower find a meaningful way to express themselves. Please join us for an interesting presentation and discussion.
