The Black Street Project: Poems and Commentary, Sojourner Kincaid Rolle
Santa Barbara poet, playwright and cultural artist Sojourner Kincaid Rolle writes poems that hold up a mirror for the community to see itself historically and contemporarily. From her experiences growing up in the segregated South to her years on the periphery of the civil rights movement in the North, she has written numerous poems that give voice to the black experience both personally and collectively. In this reading, she will present work from her latest book, Black Street (Center For Black Studies Research, 2009), and from her forthcoming chapbook, I Wanted To Write a Jazz Poem (Mille Grazie Press, 2010).
Admission is free.
