Graduate Commencement

Bob Brooks, retiring sheriff of Ventura County, will receive an honorary degree and serve as keynote speaker during Graduate Commencement services.

Elected for three consecutive terms as sheriff, Brooks is responsible for Ventura County's national reputation as a model for public safety and for Thousand Oaks' consistent designation as one of the top three safest cities of its size in the United States.

As sheriff he serves more than 800,000 residents, manages a staff of 1,200 and oversees a budget of $225 million. He also serves as chief of police for five contract cities, Director of Emergency Services for Ventura County and as Mutual Aid Coordinator for the Central Coast Region of California.

In addition to his professional duties, the sheriff is an active member of the community and serves on numerous boards including the Boy Scouts, YMCA, City Impact and Life Pacific College. He has been recognized for his civic contributions by several organizations and in the Congressional Record for his professional accomplishments.
