Reel Justice Film Series

Jonathan Skurnik will present two short documentary films from his series called The Youth & Gender Media Project. The majority of transgender young people have considered or attempted suicide because of societal and familial rejection. Learn how to use film and other media to promote gender-inclusive schools and communities.

Skurnik is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and educator. His films have been shown on PBS and European television, at prestigious venues like New York’s Museum of Modern Art, and at over 100 film festivals throughout the world.

In addition to his documentary work, Skurnik has created several grassroots outreach and engagement projects, supported by foundations, that provide transformational educational experiences through facilitated screenings and discussions and immersive digital resources on the web. He leads workshops and master classes in theory and production for filmmakers in the U.S. and China and teaches broadcast investigative journalism at Chapman University.
