International Film Festival: 'Monsieur Lazhar' (2011)

In this Oscar-nominated film, Algerian refugee Bachir Lazhar steps in to teach at a middle school in Montreal where a popular teacher has died by suicide, leaving students shaken and grieving. As Monsieur Lazhar helps the children heal, he also comes to terms with his own grief and learns to accept his painful past. 

This critically acclaimed movie features exquisite performances by Algerian comedian, writer and actor Mohamed Fellag and a stunning ensemble of child actors. 

Admission is free. Shown in French with English subtitles.
