Senior Art Exhibit 2019: Natural Conditions

Senior Art Exhibit 2019: Natural Conditions

Cal Lutheran presents Natural Conditions, a compilation of student work from the Art Department’s graduating class of 2019 investigating the perceived world – whether emotional, physical, psychological or imaginative. Each artist contributes a unique perspective of the environment around them through various media, both traditional and digital. Artists include Breann Carlucci, Michelle Handal, Donaldo Lopez, Hallie Maxwell, Johannah Peterson and Quinn Rosenblatt.

Carlucci, who is from Santa Clarita, California, explores Surrealism through the mediums of graphite and oil painting. Handal is a Salvadoran international student inspired by her country’s natural beauty, flora and fauna as well as its community values. Lopez, a printmaker and poet from Santa Maria, California, depicts allegorical animals as he gives voice to his experience of nature. Maxwell, a ceramic figurative sculptor from Westlake Village, explores love and suffering in human forms that are both realistic and abstract. Originally from Monrovia, California, Peterson creates realistic figurative renderings in ball point pen, emotional representations of the human body that tell stories. Rosenblatt is an abstract 2D artist from Westlake Village. She uses color and texture to express emotions such as passion, love, fear and gratitude.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 27. A student walk-through will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3.

Admission is free. The gallery, located in William Rolland Stadium, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
