Arts and Learning Symposium: Ensuring Access and Integrity

2019 Susan Greiser Price Arts Integration Program

This symposium is designed to build working partnerships between community members and educators at all levels, offering interactive experiences and resources to promote high-quality integration of the arts into P-20 school curricula. The symposium runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch and an art exhibit are included.

This year, the symposium considers two critical goals for arts integration: access for all learners and the integrity of all disciplines. The keynote speaker, Veronica Alvarez, EdD, brings a wealth of knowledge and professional experience to these questions. Alvarez came to love reading as one of eight siblings in a two-bedroom home in the San Fernando Valley, since books were a refuge from the noise and chaos. She knew she wanted to be an educator. Her love of art led her to her work in museums and now at Cal Arts, where she directs the Community Arts Partnership and is a faculty member in the Critical Studies Department. She recently completed her doctorate in educational leadership for social justice, writing her dissertation on Art museums and Latino English learners: Teaching artists in the K-12 classroom.

Admission is free, but registration is required.
